Excerpt from Compline in the form of CandleChant, offered by the Women of the Trinity Choir, Timothy E. Smith, Choirmaster and Organist Here we present the Song of Simeon, as set to music by Carolus Andreas (also known as Carolus Andreae, or Karl Enders), which was sung as part of CandleChant on February 2, 2018. The text of the song used here is set in English. A recording of the full service can be found here: https://youtu.be/unR6T4cvYms . CandleChant: An Ancient tradition growing in popularity: based on the medieval service of Compline (prayer and meditation immediately before bed), CandleChant is entirely sung by a choir in a candlelit church. There is no accompaniment: just the beauty of the voices singing medieval chant as well as beautiful harmonies. Prayers and scriptures are all sung by members of the choir. In the early 1970’s, the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Mark in Seattle began offering Compline at 9 pm on Sundays. Soon 500 gathered to enjoy this beautiful service sung by the light of hundreds of candles. The service here at Trinity was offered long after sunset, with the sanctuary lit only by candles placed along the center aisle and on the church's chancel, placing much of the sanctuary in near total darkness. See http://www.episcopalchurch.org/librar... for additional details on the Compline service. Recorded live on February 2, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Memorial Church, Binghamton, NY
