On February 24, 2019, Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, Binghamton, NY, invited the community to join its choir, brass players, and organist and choir master Timothy E. Smith for a hymn sing of tunes drawn from Wales. Some of the cost of this Festival have been underwritten by Bill Palmer, a member of Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, in honor of the 180th birthday of his great-grandfather, William Henry Palmer. Born in Cambridge, W. H. Palmer spent much of his adult life in Wales. He was a prominent business and leading citizen of the lovely seaside town of Aberystwyth. He served numerous terms as Alderman, and later Mayor, of Aberystwyth. He was deeply committed to the improvement and promotion of the town and the welfare of its citizens. His 1907 obituary describes him as "a perfect Welshman, who took all the interest in Wales that it was ever possible for a Welshman to take." High praise for an Englishman!
